Team work is a big key to make sure that the company will work together and can work together. Knowledge sharing is a big key in the business world today. We need to always continue to learn never stop. If an employee can keep learning then he is more valuable then another because in 5 years he will be smarter than any employee you have one that doesn’t want to keep learning.
Ethics is touched in this chapter and I thought that it would e a little bigger deal then this because people are not very ethical these days and we all ne to be have more ethics and be more responsible in our lives and business.
Do you think that more than 50% of business do something illegally every day or not?

ch15 managing human resources globally
Training in other countries is one of the things that this chapter talks about. Some of the things it said was know your goals and make sure it is clear what they are suppose to do overseas. Know the local laws over there. Keep an eye on quality you need to plan and train the trainer’s overseas takes more time and needs to be good. If they are not trained well then others will not work properly there also.
I just watched on TV how cruise liners don’t have a ship an American ship because it will cost more to have them there instead of a 3rd world country. They can save millions of taxes and fees or wages in American where if the ships home port is in Mexico, the wages and workers are willing to work for les money. A lot better way to run a business.
Do you thing that we will have a problem with having the company be from another country. Like if a death or something happens and you need to be taken care of, is this a potential problem?

Reflection
We talked about unions and how they are good and bad. I think that it is weird that France you can’t fire people for any reason or it is very hard to get rid of people. I am also glad that we had the activity it changed the class up a little and help me learn better.
A union is good in some cases and bad in some cases.

ch 14 collective bargaining and labor relation
This chapter talks about unions and how they work in regards to nations unions or local unions. And all that they really are is a group or association that seeks the advance the shared interests of its member unions at the nation or local levels. In my opinion all that they are is an organized strike because they want things and if they don’t get it then everyone stops working and the union wins. In a way that is good but in the case of Chevrolet where they had to file bankrupts so they can stay alive. At the time when all this was going the union got a good deal but now it sucks for all those people. And what happened.
Question have you ever worked in a union and what do you think about them?

ch 13 benefits
We all don't fit the mold for benefits, we all need different things in our benefits package. because we all have different things that drive us.There are those employers out there that are willing to give different packages to make our lives better.
Imagine that you are living with you partner and you have health insurance and they don't. You are not married so the normal benefits package does not apply to you. What do you do?
KEY POINTS:
They are so many things that can be mixed and matched in a benefits package. Paid leave, workers comp, paid holidays, paid vacation, retirement plans.
FACILITATED QUESTION:
What would be your ideal mix and match be for benefits be?

CH 12 Recognizing Employee Contributions with Pay
The paying of an employee is a tricky subject because people want more money and employers want more work out of them. This is why people are not allowed to talk about how much people make because if you do then others will want more money but in the eye of the employer they don’t deserve it. And then there are goals and incentives that bosses try to go people to work harder and make more money for more pay. This is what my boss does he pays us on how we produce so the pay it totally up to us and he just set that scale. I think it is great because if I’m really close to a pay grade then I will try and make it to that spot to make more money for my time.
Question. Do you think people like to just come to work and get paid for the stuff they do so is it better to have your pay be based on your production.

ch 11 establish a pay structure
1. Concept and Brief Description
2. Emotional Hook (provocative question/claim/real-life problem)
3. Key Points to Elicit in Discussion
4. Facilitative Questions
1. Wages are interesting thing here in Utah because the minimum wage is way under what people really need to make. I think it is around 7 and I think a person needs to make closer to 10 every hour. One of the things that it talked about in the chapter was deciding what to pay people. People will always want more money for less work and owners will want more work less pay. So we need to find that special medium.
2. Have you ever negotiated a starting wage or pay increase with your boss?
3. I remember my first job in high school I didn’t make much but I liked my job so I work there for a long time and it was nice. People these days don’t keep a minimum wage job very long. They will like it so they stay or they will leave and go somewhere else.
4. have you worked for a company that you thought you would get this much money and they in fact was a lot less ( summer sales )..?

ch 10
One of the things that they talked about was layoffs, and how they affect the business. I agree it can very easily change the atmosphere of the company and also how people do their work. Another thing that the book talked about was inflation and how long term can change some things. One thing that I have thought about in choosing a carrier is that inflation will change but the percentage will never change it more. I work in insurance and people will always need to pay it and if inflation changes so do the prices and then my pay will also go change with it. It is a very safe carrier and a good carrier to be in.
reflection
well it looks like we are a little behind but still moving forward we discussed whether workers today work harder than those in past generations did. It was interesting to see both sides of this debate. On the one side there seems to be a lot more relaxed working environments it often seems like people are just surfing the internet and texting their friends. However many jobs now expect you to be available anytime anywhere. With new technology, you are expected to answer your phone or emails whether you are at work or at home. .

ch 9 developing employees for future success
There are 4 main ways that people can develop themselves. 1 a formal education 2 job experiences 3 interpersonal relationships 4 assessment. All of these are needed to grow but if you don’t have one you need to be stronger in another. Some places in a large company will have people rotate positions to generate skills and this way people are not so demanding when they miss a day of work or something.
I liked the carrier management process, self assessment-reality check- goal setting-action planning. I was reading about this and I think that it is a great tool to help managers or employees to grow and be better for their company.

reflection 2/9
Today in class we talked about other people in the company and how we can train them and how bosses can do reviews better. This way the work force will be a better place. I think that it s funny the way people use the system to their advantage and abuse it, with age or race discrimination. Yes it is a problem that we do need that law but there is no reason to have it so strict that we need to watch our but so bad. Like if you hire someone else because they are black or white. It is just ridicules.

Ch 8 Managing Employees' Performance
There are several ways for effective performance management.
1- Fit with strategy, 2- Validity, 3. Reliability 4- Acceptability, 5- Specific Feedback. All of these are good way how an employee is doing and performing. I like the reliability, if a employee is doing his or her job and you can count on them to do what is needed and on time that that is good enough for me. I feel that I have a very high expectation for people at work and I think that I as well as them should work hard and be dependable to do your job fast and correct.
In the book it talks about rating workers on a scale of how they are doing. I think in my job it is either a yes or no, we keep you or we don’t that simple. Some people if we think that they are half way there we try them out for a while and then if they can hack it good buy this job not for you.
QUESTION
Do you think that it is better to tell them you are reviewing them or just do a review on them? And then just fire them if they are not doing well, and not try to teach them to do the job right or teach them and give them one more shot?

Training Reflection
Scott Brown Form Tahitian Noni was here and he went through the training that they do there at the company. They have a good training every week. Where I work we have tried to get good training every week but it falls apart every other week and isn’t very useful also. I think that we will try it again and do it better.
I liked the slide about all the different types of training. And that a company needs to try and use as many as they can to help with the training process.
Also we need to get feedback on the training. We could have the people write a subjection box to put their ideas in. I think that maybe even have them do the training also.
My company needs to do something. But no training is better than bad training

Ch 7 Training Employees
Was it this class that we talked about training and how important it is, I don’t think that it was. In another class Taute is the teacher. He was talking about that. I agree that it is important also if you are going to go to a company and they have average training then they should only expect to have average results. To me it shows that a company is not very organized and wants to have results but isn’t willing to put the time or money into training.
Work environment is also touched on in this chapter. I think that this is very important because people need to like their work place and the atmosphere that is there. If it is better than more people will want to work there and work harder. Like Google a great place to work and a wonderful environment and everyone wants to work there.
In training there are many ways to go about training you can give them a DVD and say watch and learn. Have a person teach them or just maybe send them out to learn as they go with some guidance on the way. And for different jobs there are better was or the correct was to do it for each situation. This is why some fields have internship that people can come learn to do the work in real life situations like (Doctor, lawyer, and carpenter, etc.)
So my question is what is the way that you think most people like to be trained? And which way is best for the employer?

reflection 2/2
Today in class we talked about how different jobs and fire people easily. I’m glad that we are able to do this because I can’t get the nerve to fire 2 people at my job. I wish that I could but I feel bad. They don’t work and their production is not up to par. So I’m going to slowly tell them not to come in day in and day out more and more and then I hope that they will just quit. We will see.

Chapter 6
One of the things that this chapter talks about is interviewing people. There are several ways to have interviews, nondirective, structured, situational, behavior description and panel interviews. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I think that people put out there best foot forward for the interview and the comeback 20% when they are working. And so I think if they are not 20 % better then what you want then down the road you will get a lesser person.
For my job I need to interview people on a weekly basis because we are growing at a fast rate. And always need more people to do work. The problem is that we don’t have a high enough class of person coming in to get a job.
This leads me into my question how can I put out a job posting that will entice people of a higher class to come work for us?

After Class 1/28
Today in class we talked about different jobs. And within those jobs if the person that is performing those jobs knows what he is to do. I think that I am doing that in my job but like every job as you become more experienced there will be more reasonability. I thought it was funny how the two kids were calling on each other I don’t think that they like each other for some reason. I have liked this call because as a business owner I can understand that I need to learn as much as I can from this cass and use it in my life.

Chapter 5
This chapter talks about work force and how we can prepare for the future and change for the technology that will replace jobs.
one of the the things that I liked in the chapter is the fact that technology will take away jobs. the reason that i like this is because it is going to make people want to do something better. not just shovel dirt for a trench. we now have tractors that will dig it faster. Also I am an insurance agent right now and we were paying people to call through the phone book to try and get leads for us. it was very unsuccessful. and now we have the Internet that will give us leads all day long of people that want to get insurance. it is a lot more affective and cheaper for everyone.
Also the chapter talks about hiring and employee to do a job or contracting it out?
It talked about FedEx in the chapter about it contract out the work to deliver the packages. I think that that is an awesome idea. because that person can buy a rout that will always be getting packages and then work it and make a profit just as if he owned his own business. i have a friend that did this for 5 years and then sold it and made money off the company it was a great investment company.
The only thing that i personal don't agree with is that I think if we are going to have contracts to other people and companies I say that it should stay in the us for the most part. because we have a job that needs to be done and if 1 company does the job or another as long as we keep it in America. no outsourcing out side America.

After Class 1/26
Today in class we talked about how we need to not have sexual harassment in the work force. I think that the office clip is a good example of what not to do. Michael Scott is the funniest boss but an HR nightmare.
We also talked about discrimination and I think that after the discussion in class, we need to change the rules. We all know that people are using the system to our benefit if i was black or Asian.
Class was very interesting and i think that i will tell my boss about what we have talked about because we don't have an HR department so in the new HR president ha ha.

chapter 4
This chapter was about jobs and how they have changed. The chapter talked about hoe human resources management can help make jobs better and analyze them to be more effective. The HR department can see the business as the big picture not just that job and what it is doing for the company. In the chapter there are ways that we can check jobs to see how they are doing send out questionnaires or have people interviewed. and after they do these reports that the hr department does they need to hopefully help the company and the employee have a better work place.
I worked at sprint and there my boss worked from home and would call me when she wanted o talk to me. every time that she called I could hear the baby crying in the background or something. but I don't think that she made as much money they if she worked at the office. I think that people that work at home don't work as affective there and that's why people cant work from home.
when you are working at a job and trying to correct a problem some times you can get caught up in the situation and not see the big picture. so...
when you analyse a something you need to have two people help because the view from another angle is always a good indicator of where you are sitting. and if it is just way off.
so a question that I have is is there was a good situation where a mom could work from home and still be productive and be able to communicate well with employees, how can this best be laid out?

reflection jan 21
today in class we talked about our different articles. I liked the different articles that we talked about. There was a big variety and good ideas. then the different was you can discriminate against people was good my group talked about pregnant people in the work force. and how if you are pregnant then that is very good for job security.
EEO Article
i think that it is funny that we always think about girls and guys having specific jobs for specific people. like a CEo is a man and most of the time not a women. a doctor is a man and a nurse is a women. and women are haoir dressors. well i think that we need to get out of this tans for the most part there are still jobs that need to be bone by a women or a man. I'm all for equal rights opportunity for both genders, but sometimes the situation calls for a specific gender. The article mentioned how retail clothing stores probably wouldent fire a man to handle the womens dressing room. but i think that a man would be ok with a women helpin him to the dressing room and then he can ask her for her opioion. I was talking to my wife and she said that when she goes to a bra place to get her cup size checked there is no way that she will let a man check them. and I agree that it would be weird for both people in that situation. so we know that there are jobs that women need to do and aslo for men.

i liked class and thought that what i read was right along with what we talked about. it is good not to discrimant from male to female. with equal rights. i thnk that i will learn a lot in this class and it will be helpfull to explore the different things that we do in al the different parts of class.
